A large fair or exhibition in a shopping center. An old actor in a grotesque Punch mask is playing the part of the paramour to a lovely actress. Sera and I run to watch; the acting is wonderful and makes us shout with laughter. Then a grandiose beauty pageant, and we are in the parade. A stunning woman in sequined white tights is standing high above us. Sera says "She's enough to be two women!" and I say, "Funny, there's only one pair of legs in those tights!"...
I'm climbing or walking up through elevations of the shopping center structure, through shops and restaurants. Through a wooden passageway along a broad corridor, then up irregular, gently sloping stairs of a grayish blue, slatelike stone. As I climb, the steps become more intricate and patterned. But I hear him pursuing me again, stealthily, gaining rapidly...
In a sidewalk cafe that seems to be in Collegetown in Ithaca. Sitting in a wooden booth outdoors, such as they have in pizza halls, and a woman in a truck arrives at curbside like a pizza delivery. She has a bright, animated manner that reminds me of Kathy. I pay her for the delivery. She and I chat about the small, comfortable neighborhood and she says I am "an unusual guy". She leaves a small tray with four Hershey's kisses on it; I eat them. Then I wander over the hill towards campus, across a large intersection overlooking the sea...
